Businessbooster visits Slush is an entrepreneurship-minded event that is part of ESTIEM’s Businessbooster project, which stimulates entrepreneurship among IEM students. BB visits Slush was organized for the first time in November 2016 and has since been loved by the ESTIEMers! The week includes excursions, lectures as well as workshops related to entrepreneurial topics. To give some examples of the program of last autumn, we visited the Maria 01 startup community, Aaltoes and got to hear the experiences about how it is being a CEO of a high-growth business as a student. We went also for an excursion to our sponsor, Pöyry. The event culminates in volunteering at Slush - last year this was a memorable experience for the ESTIEMers! The organizing team has rather free hands to organize the non-academic program; last year we went for a daytrip to Nuuksio national park, organized a sauna evening and went to sing some karaoke in the best karaoke bar in Helsinki!
Jr. TIMES is a learning-focused case competition in style of the official pan-European TIMES case competition. The case method is an important learning method used by universities and consultants alike. Jr. TIMES is a great way to experience the art and science of case-solving in a risk-free setting before taking case-based courses or entering case competitions. In the event itself McKinsey or BCG will give an introduction to case solving, teams solve and prepare the case presentation over the typical TIMES duration of three hours, and finally the consultants will provide feedback on the team presentations.
Jr. TIMES is targeted towards first and second year students and teams are encouraged to participate even without any prior case-solving experience. The focus of the event will not be competition but rather learning by doing and observing.
LGexchange is a concept created by ESTIEM which focuses on improving international co-operation between ESTIEM Local Groups. The general idea is for two Local Groups to host each other for a week whilst getting to know each other and the local culture and academic life. On January 2019 LGHelsinki paid an excellent visit to Madrid to meet some fellow ESTIEMers and learnt a lot of the Spanish academic culture. On February LGHelsinki had the chance to host the “MADs” when they had their own visit to the North. During this week the Spanish colleagues enjoyed the fullest of Finnish nature, winter sports and of course, the life in the “tech-village” as they say, in Espoo.
